Parametric failure analysis of metal-based composites

Metal-based composites can fail as a consequence of the growth and coalescence micro-voids introduced with manufacturing process. These detrimental phenomena influence overall performance material to different extents since macroscopic characteristics depend on both local constitutive properties geometry patterns, which promote various stress concentration strain localization effects. The understanding situations that arise in this context is often assisted by numerical simulations based GNT model, first proposed Gurson (1977) then refined Needleman Tvergaard (1984). However, exploring most relevant parameters composite response be excessively time consuming. Therefore, traditional non-linear finite element methods replaced surrogate analytical approximations, do not involve large computing costs but exhibit accuracy sensitivity model consistent practical applications. Some examples are presented contribution.
